Grandview Holds Blood Drive to Save Lives

Grandview Cabinetry blood driveGiving blood takes just ten minutes, but that single donation could go on to save up to three lives. Here at Grandview Cabinetry, we love finding ways to give back, and having a blood drive is one way we know we can help our community members who are most in need. Blood donations go on to help sickle cell patients who often need blood transfusions throughout their lives, chemotherapy patients who need an extra boost through treatment, and accident and trauma patients in emergency medical situations, among so many others.

We held our blood drive on May 3rd and started with the goal to donate 12 units of blood, which is about 12 pints. Our donors completed four easy steps to donate blood. They gave their medical history, got a quick physical, donated blood, and recharged with drinks and snacks. By the end of our drive, we’d surpassed our goal and donated a grand total of 16 units of blood. We even had a first-time donor!

Although giving blood can be intimidating if you’ve never donated before, the process is simple and easy, and the results are life-saving. After we donated our blood, we rested for about 10-15 minutes before we were ready to go again. As many of our blood donors agreed, we felt like we’d done our good deed for the day, and we felt inspired to keep our community members in mind throughout the year.

Did you know?

  • 4.5 million Americans need a blood transfusion every year.
  • Less than 10% of Americans donate blood per year, though 37% are eligible donors.
  • Healthy adults who are at least 17 years old and at least 110 pounds may donate a pint of blood – the most common donation – every 56 days.
  • Children being treated for cancer, premature infants, and children having heart surgery need blood donations from donors of all blood types.
  • There is no artificial substitute for human blood.
  • The number one reason blood donors say they give is to help others.

At Grandview Cabinetry, we’re happy to help our customers and community members on a daily basis, and a blood drive is a special way we can give back. If we didn’t see you this year, we hope to see you at our next blood drive! It’s never too late to become a first-time donor.
