WOOD SPECIES

Our Wood Species

Quality products are made from quality materials. Grandview Cabinetry offers four different box materials – three wood species and RFT – each with its own unique beauty and benefits. To help choose which material is right for your project, we’ve listed the characteristics that make each option a great choice.

Beech: Strong & Sustainable

Grandview Cabinetry Beech sampleThe Look: Natural wood tones from honey to light brown, with straight grain and reddish dots and flecks. A range of grain patterns and colors may appear on the same drawer front or door.

The Craftsmanship: Once harvested, our beech is then carefully kiln-dried to preserve its strength and durability. Because it is one of the fastest-growing species, beech is a highly sustainable option.

The Finishing Touch: Beech is a strong and durable hardwood which resists denting and scratching over time. Light stains enhance natural details, while darker stains can subdue color variation and enhance overall grain pattern.

Maple: Classic & Versatile

Grandview Cabinetry Maple sampleThe Look: Natural wood tones from grayish white to dark reddish brown, with small pin knots, pitch flecks, and mineral streaks. As the wood ages, maple’s color changes, so cabinetry installed at different times may not match.

The Craftsmanship: We harvest our maple in the highlands of Pennsylvania then carefully air-dry and kiln-dry it to preserve brightness. These extra steps guarantee the quality and durability of the wood.

The Finishing Touch: Maple’s natural beauty can be enhanced with a variety of finish colors. The subtle and refined grain pattern stands out more with lighter stains.

Oak: Durable & Detailed

Grandview Cabinetry Oak sampleThe Look: Natural wood tones from white to yellow to reddish tan. The grain pattern forms either straight or pointed lines, both of which can appear in one drawer front or door.

The Craftsmanship: We source our oak from the finest crop of hardwood forests in Pennsylvania. Our oak features tight growth rings, uniform color, and very little of the mineralization or discoloration common in other forests.

The Finishing Touch: Oak is one of the most resilient materials, standing strong through years of daily use. The oak grain pattern is unique section to section, and our finish options can be used to enhance these details. Lighter finishes bring out beautiful variations.

RTF: Clean & Consistent

Grandview Cabinetry RTF sampleThe Look: RTF (Rigid Thermofoil Finish) has a uniform, smooth surface with no color variations or grain patterns – the look of real wood, without the inconsistencies and imperfections.

The Craftsmanship: RTF is produced with crushed up wood particles and resin cooked and pressure-steamed for a strong and durable base. Using heat, vinyl is fused to the surface for a smooth and seamless finish.

The Finishing Touch: RTF’s dense, non-porous surface resists dirt and moisture, making it easy to clean, impervious to stains, and long-lasting. RTF can be finished in light and dark stains for a consistent and beautiful surface.
